To maintain client confidentiality, let’s call this company AquaDoor. It is a global leader in the manufacturing and management of hard drives and NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems. Its annual revenue is over $1 billion. When they came to AgileSoft, they were on the lookout for a software to manage the health data of their hard drives so that they can build warranty/replacement or add-on features for their hardware segment. The main challenge was that the API should maintain the privacy of the customer while providing access to the data on the hard drive health.
AgileSoft built the DataLink API to pull in hard drive health data of AquaDoor’s hard drive on the Predictive Analytics platform built by AgileSoft. The API allows AquaDoor to access the hard drive health data without any information about the User. AquaDoor would receive a standard, structured response from the API whenever performing a query. When updates are made to the underlying Predictive Analytics platform, AgileSoft ensured that there would be no impact on their ability to retrieve data as long as the API was consistent.
DataLink API Implementation
DataLink API implementation was completed in five days. AquaDoor first gained access to the DataLink API Portal where they registered their account. They then provided basic application info such as logo, redirect URL, description, etc.
On the successful registration of their account, they received a Client ID and API key. Using that information, the AquaDoor development team quickly implemented the API on a test server and then rolled it out to production. In order to fully test out the experience of using an API from the API Portal, AquaDoor worked closely with the AGSFT team throughout the implementation process and promptly resolved any issues that surfaced.
Aquadoor ExperienceThe Sign In was seamless with script initiation of the connection, handshake with authentication of a listener. After authenticating the account, an ack confirmation is sent. Once the quick setup is completed, drive health data is pulled into the AquaDoor DataLink API with time stamps. This enabled AquaDoor to scrutinize the health of their hard drives
AquaDoor was able to get the drive health data into their platform from actual devices in the field without infringing on customer privacy. Using this data, they were able to draw insights for developing an enhanced warranty program as an additional revenue stream.
